About This Game

A space shooter in the tradition of Galaga and classic space shooters. Alien formations dive out of the void in unpredictable patterns — and some will try to tractor-beam your ship. Shoot them down, dodge their volleys, and if they capture you, rescue yourself by downing the captor ship for a dual-fighter bonus. Three difficulty tiers and optional auto-fire.

What is Void Raiders?

Void Raiders is a top-down arcade space shooter inspired by Galaga, the 1981 Namco classic that refined and expanded what Space Invaders started. Alien formations enter from the top of the screen, dive toward you in unpredictable attack patterns, and fire volleys of plasma as they pass. You pilot a fighter along the bottom of the screen — slide left and right, shoot back with Space, and dodge incoming fire. The Galaga-style twist is the tractor beam: certain enemies will try to capture your fighter, and if they do, you can rescue yourself on the next wave by destroying the captor ship before it escapes, reuniting your fighters into a dual-fighter bonus that doubles your firepower for the rest of the run. Three difficulty tiers (Easy, Medium, Hard) change life count, dive rate, and capture frequency. Optional auto-fire lets you focus purely on movement. Play Void Raiders free in your browser — no download required.

Tips & Strategy

  • Stay in the lower third of the screen. Most dive patterns curve back toward the top — staying low keeps you in the opponent's blind arc.
  • Prioritise enemy fire over enemies. A diving ship is a threat for two seconds; an incoming plasma bolt is a threat right now.
  • Collect every power-up. Void Raiders drops ammo, shields, and dual-fighter bonuses, and any one of them can swing a run. None of them last forever.
  • Use side movement to break formations. Shooting straight up into a tight formation is usually less productive than flanking from the side and picking off edges.
  • Boss waves need pattern recognition, not reflexes. Most bosses telegraph their attacks — watch one full cycle before you commit to an engagement approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Void Raiders like Galaga?

Yes. Void Raiders is directly inspired by Galaga (1981), with the same core setup — you pilot a fighter along the bottom of the screen, alien formations dive in unpredictable patterns, and some enemies use tractor beams to capture your ship for a dual-fighter bonus when you rescue yourself. It also carries DNA from Space Invaders, Galaga's direct ancestor.

How many levels does Void Raiders have?

Waves continue indefinitely, scaling in difficulty as you clear them. Enemy formations get tighter, dive patterns get faster, and boss waves appear at regular intervals. Most players plateau somewhere between wave 10 and wave 20 depending on difficulty — the run ends when you lose your last life, not when you hit a wall.

What power-ups are in Void Raiders?

Occasional pickups drop from destroyed enemies: extra ammo for faster fire rate, shields that absorb one hit, and the dual-fighter bonus you can earn by rescuing a captured fighter from a tractor-beam enemy. Dual-fighter mode doubles your firepower for the rest of the run and is the single biggest score swing in the game.

Can I play Void Raiders on mobile?

Yes. Void Raiders supports touch controls — drag to move your fighter horizontally, tap to fire, or toggle auto-fire to focus purely on dodging. The portrait 480×640 playfield fits phone screens cleanly and all three difficulty tiers work identically to the desktop version.
