Who We Are
Driftmoth Games is an independent game studio founded by Michael Ricer in 2026, based in Biristrand, Norway. We create free HTML5 browser games and mobile games — built for people who just want to play, without downloads, logins, or ads getting in the way.
The Name
The name “Driftmoth” comes from the quiet fascination of small moths drawn to light at night — persistent, curious, drifting toward what catches their attention. It felt like the right metaphor for the kind of games we wanted to make: games that catch your attention for a moment, and invite you back. Small, polished, delightful.
What We Believe
Games should be instant. Games should be free. Games shouldn’t track you, manipulate you, or chase you with ads. Our design philosophy is simple: make the game fun, get out of the way, and respect the player. No cookie banners, no data harvesting, no dark patterns. If you want to play, just click play.
Two Sides of Our Work
Driftmoth Games operates on two platforms with two different — but consistent — approaches to monetization.
On the web (driftmothgames.com). Our HTML5 browser games are completely free. No ads. No trackers. No accounts. No in-app purchases. No premium tier. The website is our public-facing craft demonstration — a place to play something polished in under ten seconds, without signing up for anything. We fund it the way most indie projects are funded: out of personal time, on infrastructure cheap enough to absorb.
On mobile (iOS and Android). Our mobile games are free to download, supported by non-intrusive advertising via Google AdMob and optional in-app purchases for cosmetic items or ad removal. Nothing you buy affects gameplay. This is how sustainable free-to-play mobile works in 2026, and when done right we think it’s an honest deal.
What both share. No dark patterns. No fake scarcity. No artificial difficulty spikes to pressure purchases. No trackers beyond what ad serving requires, and none at all on the web. No selling of personal data — we don’t collect any to sell.

Our Technology
We build games with standard web technologies — HTML5 Canvas, CSS3, and vanilla JavaScript. No plugins, no game engines, no frameworks. Every game is a single file that runs anywhere a modern browser runs: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge. Desktop, laptop, tablet, phone. The same physics and rendering code paths work from a cheap Chromebook to a high-end gaming rig.
Our website is built with Eleventy as a static site, hosted on Cloudflare’s global CDN. It’s open about what it collects (nearly nothing), transparent about what it loads (everything self-hosted, including the fonts), and fast because there’s no server to wait for. If a page doesn’t open in under a second, something went wrong and we want to hear about it.
