About This Game
Tron-inspired light-cycle racing. Two cycles, one grid, no second chances. Box out an AI opponent across three difficulties or face a friend in local 2-player. Pick from four speed tiers — from SLOW to INSANE — and race to the kill count that breaks the stalemate.
What is GRIDLOCK — Neon Trails?
GRIDLOCK — Neon Trails is a light-cycle duel directly inspired by the neon grid sequences from Tron (1982). Two vehicles — you and an opponent — race across a closed grid, each one trailing an unbroken wall of light behind it. Turn the wrong way and you slam into your own tail or your enemy's. The last cycle moving wins the round. GRIDLOCK supports local 2-player on a single keyboard (WASD vs arrow keys) or a solo VS Computer match across three AI difficulties (Easy, Normal, Hard). Four speed tiers — Slow, Normal, Fast, Insane — change how long you have to make each decision, so couch-gaming pairs and hardcore cyclists can both find their tempo. First to the target kill count wins the match. Play GRIDLOCK free in your browser — no download required.
Tips & Strategy
- Cut off corners early. The player who claims the middle of the grid usually dictates the whole round — hesitating in your own lane is a losing move.
- Hug a wall with your trail to force the opponent into the shrinking space. Once they're boxed against a border, a single extra turn seals them in.
- Force enclosed spaces before they force you. If both cycles enter a small area, the one with more room to breathe almost always wins.
- Don't race in straight lines. A predictable path is a solvable path — throw in a surprise turn every few seconds to keep a human opponent honest.
- On Insane speed, play defensively for the first two seconds. Just surviving past the early rush is enough to beat most rushed AI attacks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is GRIDLOCK like Tron?
Yes. GRIDLOCK — Neon Trails is directly inspired by the light-cycle sequences from Tron (1982): two vehicles race across a grid leaving impassable trails of light, and whoever forces the other into a wall or trail first wins the round. The neon grid visual style deliberately echoes the film's aesthetic.
Can I play GRIDLOCK with two players?
Yes. GRIDLOCK supports local 2-player on the same keyboard: Player 1 uses W-A-S-D and Player 2 uses the arrow keys. Both players sit at the same computer, race on the same grid, and the first to reach the target kill count wins the match. Couch-gaming is the game's natural home.
What are the controls for GRIDLOCK?
Player 1 steers with W-A-S-D; Player 2 uses the arrow keys. In VS Computer mode you can choose either set. ESC pauses the match, M mutes audio. Virtual D-pads appear on touch devices for mobile play.
Is GRIDLOCK available on mobile?
Yes — GRIDLOCK supports touch controls with on-screen D-pads for mobile devices. Single-player vs AI works well on mobile; local 2-player on a single phone is technically possible but cramped, so a tablet is the better option if you want two players on one screen.
